At Berggren, Mariella is primarily focused on international business development.
She has been a frequent speaker at international events and workshops on a variety of IP issues, including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Standard Essential Patents in China, Italy, South Korea, Russia and the United States. She has also authored several articles on IP matters from a European and comparative law perspective, including the role of IP as a key to internationalization for start-ups and SMEs and the increased value of IP in open innovation environments, know-how protection, and doctrine of equivalence.
Mariella supports Berggren´s Legal team on various IP matters which have an international component, including distribution, licensing and technology transfer agreements, IP policies and Free and Open Source Software compliance programs. In addition, she supports Berggren´s Brokerage team in negotiating international transactions.
Prior to joining Berggren, Mariella worked as an IP attorney-at-law for over 15 years, handling all aspects of intellectual property created through innovation, from initial R&D to worldwide commercialization with a focus on both transactional and litigation matters.
Mariella’s fluency in Russian allows her to assist Russian entities with a variety of European IP issues. She also advises European entities, which require assistance with IP issues in Russia, through a selected network of low cost, high-quality, local IP firms.
She is also a co-author of a chapter in each of the following books:
