Use of Videos for Revision in a General Education Law Course
Abstract:
This presentation will explore the use of videos for revision for a general education course, being the course, Citizens and Criminal Justice. In this regard, the presenter received a teaching and development grant to produce videos featuring guest lectures on various aspects of the subject matter which is part of this course. These videos will be made available to the students undertaking this course prior to a formative assessment quiz directed at providing students with an opportunity to gauge their level of knowledge and understanding of key aspects of the curriculum which may not be straightforward for non-law students to comprehend. The presenter will include a brief summary of the nature of this course as well as the different teaching and learning methods which can be utilised to assist students in learning legal principles and concepts. Then, the presentation will include the results of a survey which will review the extent to which the students availed themselves of these videos and, based on student’s perceptions, how efficacious it was for them. Finally, based on these results the presenter will discuss opportunities for improvement in the use of this innovative method of learning.
