Innovative Subjects in Legal Education

Abstract:

Legal education system across the world are facing crisis in innovation, efficiency and relevance of educational services. The innovation in legal education would directly affect the innovation in justice delivery system of a country. Reform in legal education by introducing innovative subjects gradually leads to judicial reform. The law institutions through the power of innovative and diverse subjects can bring changes in policy analysis, need of the society, critical thinking, contemporary laws etc. The present paper proposed to work on “Innovation in Legal Education for Legal Reform”. The purpose of the paper is to do research on relevance of legal education for social challenges within a normative framework. The research would propose subjects which can respond to the demand for new skills and the new challenges facing legal education in the emerging global scenario. The subjects should teach strong all round education for students, broadening their knowledge, sensitivity and skill for law practice by introducing various interdisciplinary courses. Combination of law papers with stream of science, technology, society, economics, management etc. would give different perspective and way of interpretation to students.

Dr. Vandana Singh is Ph. D. in law, LL. M., LL.B., B.Sc., from the University of Delhi, Delhi, India. Dr. Singh is at present working as an Assistant Professor of Law at the USLLS, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi India. Earlier she was working as a Research Officer at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). She has an experience of teaching LL.B. and LL.M. classes for the last nine years. Her areas of specialization are Intellectual Property Rights, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Private International Laws and Consumer Laws. She is considered as an expert in Geographical Indications. She has co-authored the book Case Laws on Medical Negligence: Consumer Case Laws, Series I, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, in association with IIPA. She has co-authored three Monographs on Private International Law, Insurance Law and Economic Law, for the International Encyclopedia of Laws, published by Wolters Kluwer, Law & Business. She has written many research papers, which have been published in various reputed journals including a Chapter in “Jurisdiction and Applicable Laws: IPR and Private International Laws”, June 2012, Hart Publication, Oxford. She is the convener of University Legal Aid Centre and is actively involved in the various community outreach programs to help the citizen for their legal problems. The legal Aid Center works for the people who are in the weaker economic strata of the state. She has participated and presented papers in various International and National Conferences.
