PRO BONO: Role of Law Students

Abstract:

Pro Bono activities are crucial to give access to justice to the needy who are not aware of their rights and who do not know how to get their rights enforced. Law students in the present scenario are more actively engaged in pro bono activities like filing PILs, setting up legal id camps, social awareness etc. There are two benefits of this, first and foremost it creates awareness among the masses and also aids the needy and secondly it benefits the law students. Also law students after proper training can contribute a lot towards spreading legal awareness in the society. There are legal aid clinics attached to almost every law school in India and in most of the other countries as well but a proper mechanism is to be built in order to benefit both the law students and the citizens. The complete paper will discuss in details how law students can more actively be a part of pro bono activities and what the benefits for law students by doing pro bono. The paper will also discuss the current scenario in law schools and will also discuss in detail the campaigns undertaken by the authors and how law students can do pro bono activities and contribute in creating legal awareness in the society and also help in getting legal aid to the needy.
