Abstract:
During Covid 19, universities around the world were forced venture into unchartered territory and go 100% online. In-class lectures and tutorials was replaced with Zoom learning. The big question post-covid 19 is how do we go from here?
When given a choice to students: face-to-face teaching for all the subjects (FtF), face-to-face taught subjects supported with distance learning (BL) and pure distance learning mode (DL), survey findings revealed that almost all students rejected the pure distance learning mode. Majority wanted to have the benefits of both world, having face-to-face session and distance learning at the same time.
Speaker shares a very simple idea for implementing a Blended Learning program, where teachers can exercise their discretion to decide the best mode of learning for each individual lesson/tutorial, whether it is face-to-face or Zoom. Planning whether classes are conducted online/face-to-face mode is not merely as a logistical, administrative exercise. Teachers can consider carefully whether a blended learning approach would be appropriate and should be considered with clear pedagogical objectives in mind. The potential benefits include increased learning effectiveness, enriched learning experience and increased convenience. Students will become flexible, adaptable and resilient learners.
We should think about the right tools for the right job – and trust that educators knows what’s best for their own courses.
