To mark the twentieth anniversary of CUHK LAW and commemorate a decade since hosting the inaugural Directions in Legal Education conference, CUHK LAW is proud to present Directions in Legal Education 2026, to be held on 5-7 November 2026. This conference will bring together leading scholars, educators, practitioners, policymakers, and students to reflect on the evolution of legal education over the past decade, engage with the challenges and opportunities of the present, and explore future directions for teaching and learning in law.
Since its establishment, CUHK LAW has been committed to excellence in teaching and the holistic development of its students. The Faculty’s mission is to prepare graduates for leadership roles across the legal, commercial, public, and financial sectors while fostering a strong sense of professional responsibility and public service. In pursuing this mission, CUHK LAW has consistently championed innovation in legal education through conferences, seminars, workshops, and collaborative initiatives designed to enhance teaching practice and enrich student learning experiences.
In 2016, CUHK LAW hosted Hong Kong’s first conference dedicated to legal education, establishing an important platform for discussion, collaboration, and thought leadership in this emerging field. Ten years later, Directions in Legal Education 2026 builds upon that legacy by revisiting key developments, assessing current challenges, and considering how legal education must continue to evolve in response to technological change, globalisation, shifting professional demands, and the changing needs of students and society.
The conference aims to provide a dynamic and inclusive forum for open, informed, and forward-looking dialogue on the future of legal education in Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond. By bringing together diverse perspectives from academia, the legal profession, government, and the student community, the event seeks to generate new insights, share best practices, and inspire innovative approaches to teaching law in a rapidly changing world.
Through keynote addresses, panel discussions, interactive sessions, and opportunities for collaboration, Directions in Legal Education 2026 will celebrate past achievements while charting new directions for the next generation of legal education. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful conversations on how law schools can best equip future lawyers, leaders, and changemakers with the knowledge, skills, values, and adaptability required for an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
