CUHK LAW’s Centre for Legal Innovation and Digital Society (CLINDS) will host a conference on “Legal Responses to the Existential Threat Posed by Artificial Intelligence” on 26–27 September 2025 at the Graduate Law Centre, Bank of America Tower, Hong Kong. The conference will explore potential legal responses to the risks posed by AI. The wave of alarm that swept the world in 2023–24 has given way to an accelerating global race to develop AI, largely driven by an intensifying geopolitical and commercial competition. In the absence of substantial regulatory action, and given the potential scale of harm, the conference will assess the role of legal systems in confronting the challenges brought by this powerful new technology. The conference will bring together legal scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to consider whether law can keep pace with one of the defining challenges of our time.
